Senator Munzlinger Sponsors Gubernatorial Appointee

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Brian Munzlinger, R-Williamstown, was present yesterday (2/4/15) when the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee heard from Peter Detweiler of Kirksville. He has been appointed to serve on the board of directors of the Higher Education Loan Authority of the State of Missouri.

“Education is one of the most important items on my list, no matter if it’s elementary or higher education,” Sen. Munzlinger said. “I applaud Peter for his willingness to serve. The Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA) sees to it that many of our young people can get the resources they need to go to, and graduate from, college. They serve a much-needed role in our state.”

MOHELA’s mission is to eliminate barriers for students so they can access higher education. The Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority's Board of Directors establishes desired outcomes; determines beneficiaries; creates governing policies, including executive limitations; and monitors compliance with those policies. The board also approves bond issues and appoints the executive director.

Detweiler’s term began on Jan. 6, and will expire on Oct. 22, 2016 — pending approval of the entire Missouri Senate.
