Legislative Column for the Week of Dec. 14, 2015
The Blessings of Christmas

Christmas is right around the corner, and it is an opportune time to be thankful for the many blessings we possess in our lives. Folks often become immersed in planning holiday festivities, shopping, decorating and baking good things to eat. Sometimes we get so busy, we lose sight of the real meaning of the occasion. It’s not the gifts you give or the parties you host, it’s the people who surround you that make for a merry Christmas season.

I consider myself extremely blessed to have the support of my loving family, as well as the input of the many friends and constituents I’ve had the privilege to serve during my time here in the Legislature, and I am truly honored and humbled to be your state senator.

While all of us have reasons to be thankful, we must remember that the season can be very difficult for some. Many people have lost loved ones, or may be experiencing job, financial or personal crises, which can make the Christmas season very stressful.

With that being said, there are an abundance of charities all over the country that would be thrilled to take a donation of food, gifts or cash to make Christmas better for an underprivileged family or individual. In addition, there are lots of volunteer opportunities in your area that could make a huge difference in someone’s life. Sometimes, simply having someone to talk to can brighten the Christmas spirit in a person’s heart.

This Christmas season, please also keep the families of our Armed Forces in your thoughts and prayers. This is the time of year when it is most painful to be away from loved ones. To our servicemen and women, and their families — you are all my heroes, and you forever have my gratitude. God Bless you always.

As always, I’m happy to hear questions and comments from constituents, and I can be reached by calling my Capitol office at 573-751-5713 or by e-mailing me at dan.brown@senate.mo.gov.

Thank you for reading this and for your participation in state government.
