Senator Parson Selected for Missouri State University's Government Excellence Award

JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, was recently selected by Missouri State University to receive the very first Governmental Excellence Award for his consistent and long-lasting support for the university. Most notably, he championed the bonding package that appropriated nearly $19 million to renovate Ellis Hall, Hill Hall and Missouri Hall.

“I am extremely honored to receive this recognition from everyone at Missouri State University,” said Sen. Parson. “Supporting and advocating for our higher education institutions in Missouri plays a vital role in our state. Lawmakers have an obligation to preserve and protect our public buildings and universities.”

The Government Excellence Award recognizes extraordinary achievement and outstanding support for the university by a current or former elected or appointed government official.

“Senator Parson has long supported Missouri State in his role as a state representative and senator,” said Missouri State President Clifton M. Smart III. “The support of legislators like Senator Parson is essential to Missouri State’s continued growth and development.”

Senator Parson will be presented with the award on Dec. 11, 2015, during the College of Business and College of Education commencement ceremony. Recipients of the Governmental Excellence Award are recommended by the university president and administrative council and supported by the executive committees of the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate and Student Government Association, prior to going before the Board of Governors for approval.
