Legislative Column for the Week of Jan. 12, 2015

Legislative Survey and District Day Information

Last week, I was sworn in for a second term as the 8th District state senator.  I am proud of what we have accomplished over the first four years, and look forward to another session. Committees were just assigned this week, bills have been pre-filed and the senate seems ready to tackle some important issues.

Legislative Survey

Each year in the Senate, the 8th District office has conducted a legislative survey.  The survey, while not scientific, gives me a good gauge of where district residents stand on some issues likely to be debated during the coming session. The questions for the survey come from the non-partisan Senate Communications office.

This year, we decided to have residents complete the survey online rather than by mail.  The online survey, which has been an option in the past, makes it easier and more cost-efficient to respond to questions and comments.  The survey can be accessed by visiting my official website at www.senate.mo.gov/kraus. You need to use your nine-digit Zip Code so we know you are a resident.  There is a tool on the survey page to easily find that Zip Code if you do not know it.  If you wish to fill out a survey, but do not have Internet access, please contact us and we will send you a hard copy.

District Day

Each year, both in the House and Senate, I have held an annual District Day event.  The day is designed for residents of the district to come to Jefferson City and see their state government in action.  Hundreds of residents have been to District Days over the years, and the feedback has been very positive.

During the day, you will tour the Governor’s Mansion, Supreme Court and Capitol.  You will have time to see action on the Senate and House floors, and meet with your state representative and myself.  Lunch is not provided, but there are plenty of options.  We generally pool funds and order pizza, for those who are interested.

District Day will be March 18 this year.  If you would like to attend, or to get more information, please feel free to contact the office at (573) 751-1464, or email me at will.kraus@senate.mo.gov.  As the day gets closer, we will send more detailed information to those who register.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at any time. We look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions, and trying to answer any questions you may have. You can reach us by phone at 573-751-1464, or e-mail at will.kraus@senate.mo.gov.
