Transportation Sales Tax proposal Sent
to the August 5 Ballot

JEFFERSON CITY — The Legislature passed eight different ballot measures this session, including House Joint Resolution 68, a proposed constitutional amendment that would impose a three-quarters cent sales and use tax increase for 10 years to be used for transportation purposes.

“Whether you are for the sales and use tax increase or against it, it’s important to make your vote count in August,” said Sen. Parson. “The General Assembly is asking for Missourians to decide how they want to be taxed and where those funds will go, and this is what makes our state a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

The General Assembly passed the measure during the last days of the 2014 legislative session. The governor recently announced the sales tax increase proposal will be placed before voters on the Aug. 5 ballot. If approved by voters, the new tax is expected to raise over $500 million annually for a decade.
