Senator Parson Named Chairman of the Senate Small Business, Insurance and Industry Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Mike Parson, R-Bolivar, was appointed this week as the new chairman of the Committee on Small Business, Insurance and Industry by the President Pro Tem of the Missouri Senate. The committee often considers some of the more high-profile measures in the upper chamber, including bills supporting small businesses, one of Sen. Parson’s highest priorities.

The Small Business, Insurance, and Industry Committee has already considered a handful of the most followed bills of the 2014 legislative session, including measures relating to unemployment benefits, volunteer labor on public works projects, and the licensure of health care navigators in the state.

“It’s an honor to be appointed as the chairman of the committee, and I look forward to continue serving with my fellow members,” said Sen. Parson. “Some of the biggest issues facing our state involve encouraging growth among our small businesses and dealing with the complex issues surrounding insurance. It’s a privilege to work with my colleagues in vetting these critical proposals.”

Senator Scott T. Rupp, who previously chaired the committee, was appointed to the Public Service Commission this week, creating the vacancy.

“I’ve worked with Sen. Rupp for some time now, and in those years, I’ve grown to know him as a good, honest man who always put the best interests of his constituents and the citizens of this state first,” said Sen. Parson. “While I’m sure he will serve wonderfully in his new position, it’s also sad to lose such an experienced and respected colleague. I wish him the best.”
