Senator Jamilah Nasheed Commends Governor for Releasing Math and Science Funding

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, applauded the governor today (10-2) for his release of math and science tutoring funds for St. Louis, MO.

“In order to take care of Missouri’s most vulnerable citizens, certain funds are no longer negotiable,” said Sen. Nasheed. “We need to ensure that priorities are maintained and funded for the best possible future for our students in St. Louis.”

As an elected official, Sen. Nasheed has fought for math and science funding for the St. Louis area, a program she has worked for since serving in the House of Representatives.

“The governor needs to make sure that funds are going to the most vital of all programs,” Sen. Nasheed said. “However, this small percentage of funding will have a major impact on Missouri’s economy, both current and future.”

A total of $500,000 was released for use by the Math and Science Tutoring Program very shortly after the annual veto session in Jefferson City adjourned in mid-September.

“I have seen the need for this program since my earliest days in the Capitol. I have no doubt that these funds will assist many local young people in furthering their education, and perhaps even lead to higher enrollment numbers for Missouri’s colleges and universities,” concluded Sen. Nasheed.
