Senator Munzlinger Sponsors Gubernatorial Appointee

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Brian Munzlinger, R-Williamstown, this week sponsored the appointment of Christopher Halliday of Kirksville as a member of the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA) at a meeting of the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee.

“Doctor Halliday is currently the dean of the A.T. Still University - Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health, and is currently on the MOHELA board,” Sen. Munzlinger said. “He has an impeccable record of service, not only in Missouri, but throughout the United States. I have no doubt he will continue to be major asset in his capacity with MOHELA.”

Doctor Halliday is a retired rear admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) and former assistant surgeon general and chief of staff to the surgeon general of the United States. His previous experience includes director and chief dental officer of the Indian Health Service, and chief professional officer of the dental category. During his term as chief dental officer of the USPHS, Dr. Halliday coordinated the delivery of oral health services by the Commissioned Corps Dental Officers from the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security.

MOHELA's mission is to eliminate barriers for students so they can access higher education. Its Board of Directors establishes organizational ends; determines beneficiaries; creates governing policies, including executive limitations; and monitors compliance with same. The board also approves bond issues and appoints the executive director.

Dr. Halliday’s current term began in August 2012 and is set to expire in October 2013.
