Status Update on Priority Legislation

With a week left in the 2013 legislative session, I would like to take a moment and let you know how some of my legislation is doing this year.

  1. Senate Bill 16 has been signed into law by the governor. The measure will exempt farm work performed by children under 16 from certain child labor requirements;
  2. Senate Bill 17 is currently in a Senate-House conference committee. This legislation would establish the Advisory Council on the Education of Gifted and Talented Children and the Career and Technical Education Advisory Council;
  3. Senate Bill 18 awaits action in the Missouri House. This measure would require agencies to track federal fund usage, require political subdivisions and charter schools to disclose indebtedness, require the governor to report withholdings and remove the auditor from the Board of Fund Commissioners;
  4. Senate Bill 41 has been amended in the House, and could soon go to a conference committee. The legislation would modify the laws regarding certain private nuisance actions;
  5. Senate Bill 42 could also be in conference soon. This measure would modify provisions relating to county sheriffs and create procedures and policies for unpaid debts to county jails;
  6. Senate Bill 43 is in a conference committee. The legislation would increase the weight allowance for vehicles equipped with idle reduction technology from 400 pounds to 550 pounds to reflect change in federal law;
  7. Senate Bill 51 awaits House action. This measure would modify provisions relating to the regulation of motor vehicles; and
  8. Senate Bill 89 also awaits House action. The legislation would allow certain nursing home districts to establish senior housing and local city hospitals to become nonprofit corporation hospitals.

With only a week left in session, things are very hectic at the Capitol, and I will let you know how things went for our district in the weeks to come.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my office. Thank you.
