Senator Bob Dixon Appointed to Job Training Oversight Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, has been named by President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, to serve on the Missouri Works Job Training Joint Legislative Oversight Committee.

During the 2013 legislative session, Sen. Dixon secured passage of Missouri Works, originally filed as Senate Bill 323 and passed into law in House Bill 184. Missouri Works consolidates four existing business development programs into a single, streamlined initiative that provides greater efficiency and flexibility and cuts through red tape. Companion legislation (HB 196), which passed into law, created the Missouri Works Job Training Program, streamlining Missouri’s workforce training programs, and established the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee.

“Putting Missouri on a sustained path to economic prosperity and promoting job creation has been one of my top priorities in the Legislature,” said Sen. Dixon. “Education and job training are essential elements to growing our economy. By sharpening our economic development tools and cutting red tape to improve efficiency, we can position Missouri as an excellent place for entrepreneurs and businesses to grow, expand or relocate in our state and remain competitive.”

Senator Dixon is one of six members who will serve on the oversight committee, which will provide an annual report to the governor and General Assembly leadership regarding all assistance provided under the Missouri Works Job Training Program.
