Senator Bob Dixon Receives Legislative Champion Award From Prosecutors' Association

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (MAPA) recently recognized Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, with the Legislative Champion Award for his legislative work on behalf of Missouri’s criminal justice system.

"Senator Dixon is truly a legislative champion for all Missourians interested in a better criminal justice system,” said Eric Zahnd, MAPA president and Platte County prosecutor.  “His work to provide crime victims with restitution, to ensure repeat child predators can be fully prosecuted, to reform the public defender system, and to overhaul the Missouri criminal code for the first time in decades are just a few examples of his dedication to the cause of justice.  Missouri's prosecutors are pleased to recognize his exemplary efforts that will benefit every citizen of our state."

Senator Dixon was recognized for handling and passing House Bill 215, which modifies several areas of law relating to Missouri’s criminal justice system.  At the heart of the bill were significant changes to the state public defender system, originally filed by Sen. Dixon as Senate Bill 414.  HB 215 strengthened and updated Missouri laws dealing with sex crimes, domestic violence, the prosecution of child predators, and sexually violent predators.  HB 215 also improved the state’s system for collecting restitution for crime victims.

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Sen. Dixon.  “It has been my privilege to work with Missouri’s prosecutors to promote justice and public safety.  As chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I am dedicated to maintaining a strong, effective criminal justice system that keeps citizens and their families safe and deals justly with those who commit crimes.”
