Job Creation and Economic Development Program Sponsored by Sen. Bob Dixon Becomes Law

JEFFERSON CITY — Today (7-11), the governor signed into law House Bill 184. Among other provisions, the omnibus bill contains the Missouri Works Program, originally sponsored by Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, in Senate Bill 323, later added to HB 184. Missouri Works consolidates four existing economic development programs into a single, streamlined program for greater efficiency and flexibility.

“My top priorities have included putting our state on a sustained path to economic prosperity and promoting the creation of secure, quality jobs,” stated Sen. Dixon. “Missouri Works cuts red tape and makes our economic development program easier to use. With legislative initiatives like Missouri Works, we can position Missouri as an excellent place for entrepreneurs to innovate, invest or expand.”

Missouri Works allows Missouri to better compete for a greater number of quality projects by providing streamlined, simplified and more efficient business development tools. In addition to encouraging businesses that will provide secure jobs to make Missouri’s rural communities home, it also provides a single set of definitions and procedures, and eligibility and reporting requirements. It also creates a more effective job retention program.
