Legislative Column for the Week of May 6, 2013
The Home Stretch

With the end of the session only a week away, my colleagues and I are excited to wrap up this year’s work and get back to our home districts.

The last several weeks have been very busy, with many sessions lasting into the nighttime hours while we whittle through the long list of legislation remaining.

The main reason we are here, of course, is to pass a working budget. We all work very hard to be fair and judicious when it comes to the use of your tax dollars. The Senate and House this year worked together to pass the FY 2014 Operating Budget, and we encountered quite a few snags along the way. However, the kinks were eventually ironed out and we passed the budget a full day ahead of the mandatory deadline of 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 10.

As we return to our districts for the Mother’s Day weekend, I encourage everyone to give mothers the respect and love they deserve. Whether your mother is living or not, take the time to give them special treatment or reflect on special memories of your mom this Sunday.

Always feel free to contact me throughout the year with any comments, questions, or issues by calling my office at (573) 751-5713 or by visiting my website at www.senate.mo.gov/brown.

Thank you for reading this and for your participation in state government.
