We’ve all seen the damage done by the weather recently. From tornadoes to floods, drought to snow, Missouri has definitely seen its share of natural disasters.
The Joplin area is still recovering from 2011’s devastating tornado, and only last week, St. Louis was hit by tornadoes that left many structures destroyed and many people homeless.
This week, in response to the devastating natural disasters in our state, the Senate gave final approval to SB 366, which creates the Rebuild Damaged Infrastructure Program. This program would transfer funds from the Insurance Dedicated Fund, Lewis and Clark Discovery Fund, Department of Revenue Information Fund and the Missouri Health and Educational Facilities Authority Act to this program in order to facilitate resources for the repair, renovation or rebuilding any infrastructure that the president has declared a ‘natural disaster.’
The program and fund is slated to expire on June 30, 2014, at which time any remaining funds would be placed into the General Revenue fund.
I believe this is an important piece of legislation, especially due to the recent violent weather we are experiencing in Missouri.
