Legislative Column for the Week of March 4, 2013
Capitol Visitors

I’m always pleased to see the many visitors who stop by my office during the legislative session. I’m proud to see all the school groups, visitors and constituents who are willing to make the trek to Jefferson City to visit our State Capitol, learn about the legislative process, or simply discuss issues with me that affect life in Missouri for its valued citizens.

Besides the obvious legislative incentive, the Capitol is clearly the most beautiful building in the state, and is a treasure trove of priceless artwork such as paintings, murals and sculpture. The first-floor museum is full of authentic exhibits representing Missouri history, and the surrounding grounds offer many opportunities for learning, for both young and old alike.

This past week, we featured Rolla Days at the Capitol. Many area businesses and civic leaders converged on the Capitol with displays and information showing off all the positive things the Rolla area has to offer.

In addition, we had the University of Missouri Undergraduate Research Day, with many interesting displays of science and technology from students who will forge the advancements for the future. Students Ariel Donovan and John Volosin were in attendance, representing the Rolla area for this event.

Several school groups from Waynesville visited this week as well, along with groups from the Rolla Bible Church, Leadership Phelps County, North Wood R-4 school, and many others.

The best way to find out what goes on in the Legislature in Jefferson City is to see it first-hand. I encourage everyone to visit the Capitol and see your ideas and issues come to life.
