Legislative Column for the Week of Feb. 25, 2013
Area Scholarships Available

I would like to share with my constituents a scholarship opportunity made available by the Missouri Rural Water Association (MRWA). This organization is now accepting applications for three $1000 scholarships to be awarded this spring for the 2013-2014 school year.

The MRWA will select three students who are children, stepchildren or dependents of full-time employees of the MRWA or the Active Member System.

Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2013. For complete information, including applications and rules to qualify, visit www.moruralwater.com, or call (573) 657-5533 if you need the application mailed to you.

This is a great opportunity for selected students in the Show-Me State to help achieve their educational goals.

The Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) lists various grant and scholarship programs available to our state’s students. Grant awards are usually based on financial need, do not need to be repaid, and are available from the state or federal government for the college you plan to attend. Scholarships reward students for academic or athletic achievements, service to a local community, unique skills, special talents, or even a specific career interest.

To see a list of grants and scholarships administered by the MDHE, visit http://www.dhe.mo.gov/ppc/grants.

Always feel free to contact me throughout the year with any comments, questions, or issues by calling my office at (573) 751-5713 or by visiting my website at www.senate.mo.gov/brown.

Thank you for reading this and for your participation in state government.
