Senator Ryan Silvey elected as Leadership of National Conference of State Legislatures' Executive Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — Recently in Atlanta, Ga., Sen. Ryan Silvey, R-Kansas City, was elected by his colleagues from around the country to serve on the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). The 60-member Executive Committee consists of 30 at-large state legislators from 25 states and the Virgin Islands.

“I am extremely honored at the confidence placed in me by my colleagues from across this great country. I look forward to sharing our Missouri perspective in the national arena, as well as communicating innovative legislative solutions under development around the United States to my colleagues in the Missouri Capitol,” Sen. Silvey said.

The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan group that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's states, commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing governmental issues. NCSL is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of state governments before Congress and other federal agencies. The leadership of the committee is composed of legislators and staff from across the country. The NCSL Executive Committee provides overall direction on operations of the conference.

“This opportunity will enable me to grow as an elected official and as a legislator,” Sen. Silvey said. “Having a seat on the front lines of legislation creation will enable me to keep my eyes open for measures that will benefit, not only the 17th District, but all Missourians, as well.”

The election that put Sen. Silvey in his position was held during the business meeting of the annual NCSL Legislative Summit. The summit was attended by approximately 5,500 conferees, with about 1,000 legislators in attendance.
