Senator Jamilah Nasheed Files Legislation to Streamline Court Dockets for Armed Crimes

JEFFERSON CITY — On the last day to file measures for the 2013 legislative session, Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, today (2-28) brought forth Senate Bill 482, an act that would create a special court docket to handle all aspects of armed crimes.

Senate Bill 482 calls for the establishment of a special docket to be called the “Armed Offender Docket” in the St. Louis City circuit court, presided over by two assigned judges that would exclusively hear and decide cases involving armed criminals.

“In order to deter the use of firearms in the commission of violent crimes and to protect the law-abiding public, there must be urgent, consistent, and transparent handling of gun offenses in our courts,” stated Sen. Nasheed.
