Senator Jamilah Nasheed takes Oath to Serve the 5th Senatorial District

JEFFERSON CITY — Today (1-9), State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, was sworn in as a member of the Missouri Senate, representing the city of St. Louis in District 5.

“I can’t tell you the honor it is to serve in this position,” said Sen. Nasheed. “I look forward to this new chapter in my legislative career, and I am ready to move forward with the work of the Senate.”

Serving House District 60 for the last six years, Sen. Nasheed hopes her experience as a legislator and small business owner will provide invaluable insight and assist her in her role in the Senate.

“The people of the 5th Senatorial District deserve a strong, responsible legislator who supports their needs and provides a better state in which to live,” said Sen. Nasheed. “Constituents need to know they are being served by their legislators, and that action is on the horizon to make the Show-Me State a place we can both live and work in and be proud to call home.”

Freshman senators, including Sen. Nasheed, were sworn in to office in a ceremony following the opening of the new session at noon.
