ASSUMPTION



Officials from the Department of Public Safety, Missouri Highway Patrol assume this proposal would not fiscally impact their agency.



In response to identical legislation from last year, officials from the Office of Attorney General assumed that the costs from this proposal for defending appeals from convictions is unknown but could be absorbed by their agency.



In response to identical legislation from last year, officials from the Office of the State Public Defender assumed the proposed legislation would have no fiscal impact on their agency.



In response to similar legislation from a previous year, the Office of the State Courts Administrator assumed the proposed legislation would have no fiscal impact on their agency.



In response to identical legislation from last year, officials from the Office of Prosecution Services (OPS) assumed that the costs from this proposal are unknown, but is assumed to be less than $100,000.



Oversight assumes that OPS could absorb any additional costs arising from passage of this proposal with existing resources.

FISCAL IMPACT - Small Business



Manufacturers, distributors, and sellers of firearms would likely be impacted by this proposal.





DESCRIPTION



This proposal prohibits manufacturers of concealable firearms or assault weapons, as defined in the act, from distributing such weapons unless they are equipped with a reusable child safety lock or firearm

locking device.



This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
