FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Officials from the Department of Revenue (DOR) assume this legislation would require the Division of Motor Vehicle and Drivers Licensing to replace the current commercial motor vehicle license plates for vehicles that are currently registered for gross weight in excess of 72000 pounds. According to DOR officials, the maximum permissible weight for registration purposes under this proposal would be 80,000 pounds and a vehicle with weight in excess of 80,000 pounds would have an 80,000 pound registration plus a special overweight trip permit. DOR officials assume they can implement this proposal at license renewal for the affected vehicles and this can be accomplished at minimal cost and with existing resources.

Officials from the Department of Transportation concur with the Department of Revenue response.

In response to a previous version of this proposal, officials from the Missouri Highway Patrol assume no fiscal impact to their organization.
