ASSUMPTION
Officials from the Department of Revenue (DOR) assume this legislation would require the Division of Motor Vehicle and Drivers Licensing to replace the current commercial motor vehicle license plates for vehicles that are currently registered for gross weight in excess of 72000 pounds. According to DOR officials, the maximum permissible weight for registration purposes under this proposal would be 80,000 pounds and a vehicle with weight in excess of 80,000 pounds would have an 80,000 pound registration plus a special overweight trip permit. There were approximately 6,262 plates issued in FY01 which would be affected by this legislation.
6,262 x $1.26 per plate = $7,891
6,262 x $.06 per tab = $376
The division will also require $18,876 for procedural changes, envelopes and postage to implement this proposal.
Officials from the Department of Transportation assume no fiscal impact to their organization.
