ASSUMPTION



Officials from the Office of the State Public Defender assume the proposed legislation would have no fiscal impact on their agency.



In response to similar legislation from last year, the Office of the State Courts Administrator and the Department of Public Safety assumed the proposed legislation would have no fiscal impact on their respective agencies.



Officials from the Office of Attorney General assume that the costs from this proposal for defending appeals from convictions is unknown but can be absorbed by their agency.

Officials from the Office of Prosecution Services (OPS) assumes that the costs from this proposal are unknown, but is assumed to be less than $100,000

FISCAL IMPACT - Small Business



Manufacturers, distributors, and sellers of firearms would likely be impacted by this proposal.





DESCRIPTION



This proposal prohibits manufacturers of concealable firearms or assault weapons, as defined in the act, from distributing such weapons unless they are equipped with a reusable child safety lock or firearm locking device.





This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program, and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
