FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Officials from the Office of State Courts Administrator (CTS) assume the proposed legislation could result in a slight increase in county and state costs, depending on the number of jury trials which may result. Although CTS officials are unable to predict the volume of change, they do not expect the proposal to result in a significant increase in state or local judiciary costs.

Officials from the Office of the Attorney General, the Office of Prosecution Services, the Office of the State Public Defender, and the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations assume the proposal would have no fiscal impact on their agencies.

$0 $0 $0

FISCAL IMPACT - Local Government FY 2001

FISCAL IMPACT - Small Business

No direct fiscal impact to small businesses would be expected as a result of this proposal.

DESCRIPTION

Under current law, the Human Rights Commission must issue a letter notifying a claimant that he or she has 90 days to file a civil action if, after 180 days, the Commission has not completed its investigation. This proposal would require the Commission to issue a similar letter when it terminates processing of a complaint. The proposed legislation would also allow jury trials upon request.

This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
