Celebrating October

Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley!

October is a special time of year. It’s the beginning of the holiday season, and a month where we bring awareness to important issues and focus on how to contribute to our community.

You may not even realize how many people and movements are in action during the month of October:

  • National Domestic Violence Awareness Month – Voices around the country come together to help survivors.
    1. National hotline: 1-800-799-7233
  • National Book Month – Celebrates literature, authors and publishers since this month coincides with the announcement of the National Book Awards.
  • Emotional Wellness Month – Focuses on efforts to manage stress and strengthen minds through emotional resilience.
    1. Participate online with #EmotionalWellnessMonth
  • Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Informs women around the country of the preventative screenings, risks and available treatments for breast cancer.
    1. Donate @ www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-awareness-month/
  • National Fire Prevention Month – Recognizes the efforts of fire stations and the men and women who run them by encouraging safe practices and preventative measures citizens can take.
    1. Reminder to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Global Diversity Awareness Month – Encourages building understanding and appreciation for the many diverse cultures present in our country and around the world.
  • National Learning and Development Month – Urges individuals to continue learning and develop a new skill or technique this month.
    1. Participate online with #LearningAndDevelopmentMonth

It is a time to come together and recognize our struggles and endeavors so we can improve our communities and become stronger citizens.

In honor of that, I had a chance to come together with my family to attend the Belle Fontaine Community Resource Fair and Coat Giveaway. It is always an honor to take? part in service for our community.

I encourage you to find ways to participate in one of the various movements and celebrate October, not just for the holidays, but for the good we can accomplish together.
