Senator Barbara Anne Washington’s Agriculture Education Legislation Signed into Law JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Barbara Anne Washington, D-Kansas City, is proud to announce her agriculture education program legislation, Senate Bill 1383, was signed into law on July 13 as a provision of House Bill 2896. The law replaces the current pilot program with a statewide option, allowing more public schools to offer the curriculum.
“In this digital age, too many children grow up without knowing where or how food is produced,” said Sen. Washington. “By exposing more children to agriculture education, we can give children the knowledge needed to make healthier choices and possibly pursue careers in the agriculture industry.”
The program outlined in HB 2896 will be available statewide in the 2027-28 school year to all public elementary schools that choose to participate. Results will be posted on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s website.
