Senator Burger’s Sovereign Immunity for Private Contractors Bill Signed into Law

JEFFERSON CITY – State Sen. Jamie Burger, R-Benton, announced Tuesday that the governor signed his priority legislation, Senate Bill 916, into law on July 13. The new policy grants private contractors working with the Missouri Department of Transportation the same sovereign or governmental tort immunity as public entities.

“I am thankful for the overwhelming support and advocacy this bill received from insurance coalitions, contractors, municipalities and trade associations alike,” said Sen. Burger. “This new law is a simple fix that will benefit everyone involved and protect private contractors from frivolous, unmerited lawsuits while doing work for the people of Missouri.”
