The Final Push

The last week of session is behind us. It was a final push to get a number of bills to the governor to benefit Missouri.

I had the opportunity to handle House Bill 3231 in the Senate and help it get over the final hump to get it Truly Agreed To and Finally Passed.

This bill works to help rebuild our downtown areas by creating Missouri Innovation Zones that encourage and enable revitalization projects. It does this by providing tax incentives that require initial investment in the project and area. In my opinion, this is how we fund initiatives without needlessly burdening the Missouri taxpayer.

Communities will also be strengthened by these projects as they provide jobs and opportunities. I believe that if there aren’t cranes in the sky, then we are doing something wrong. We should always be expanding and growing. It is good for our towns, cities, people and entire state.

In addition, the General Assembly Truly Agreed To and Finally Passed two of my own bills this week that I’ve worked on since the beginning of session.

The first, Senate Bill 913, sustains multiple tax incentives utilized by many agricultural industries in the state by removing the incentives sunset clauses. It also encourages the construction and improvement of short-line railroad infrastructure in the state. Both of these I believe are key in supporting our district and industry across the state.

The second, Senate Bill 1553, helps secure critical resources in the state. As technology and medicine progress, the need for different minerals and ingredients has become greater. We are blessed in Missouri to have access to in-demand resources that are needed in fighter jets, electric vehicles and many other new technologies. These critical resources are typically received from overseas which makes availability susceptible to supply chain disruption during times of war or economic crises. This legislation helps leverage Missouri’s inherent advantage and bring these industries to the state by providing tax incentives to encourage development.

I have felt honored to represent you in the Senate this year and now look forward to how I can best serve you next session here in the Capitol.
