Statement from Sen. Angela Mosley Regarding the Missouri Supreme Court’s Decision on New Congressional Maps

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Angela Walton Mosley, D-Florissant, issued the following statement relating to the Missouri Supreme Court’s decision that the newly drawn congressional maps are constitutional:

“I am disappointed in this decision and believe the highest court in Missouri has prioritized partisan interests over fair and equitable representation. In combination with the Federal Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Voting Rights Act of 1965, with the crack of a gavel they have likely caused a myriad of cascading effects, the most heart-wrenching of which is silencing the voices of minorities. It is devastating to see hard-fought-for maps and policies reversed in a matter of months and such damage to the progress in civil rights this nation has made over decades. I encourage everyone impacted to not be discouraged and become even more active in the process. It is now more important than ever that our voices are heard.”
