Senator Mike Moon’s Lifetime Protection Order Proposal Heads to Governor Jefferson City — State Sen. Mike Moon, R-Ash Grove, proudly announces his lifetime protection order legislation is heading to the governor for consideration. Language from Senate Bill 1103, which allows a judge to immediately issue a lifetime protection order for someone who has been a victim of a dangerous felony, was amended onto House Bills 2637 & 3155 and passed by the General Assembly on April 29.
“Victims of violent crime have been forced to face their abuser, relive their trauma and repeat their stories in court just to renew a protective order for far too long,” said Sen. Moon. “I believe this bill will deliver real results for these survivors and prevent future victims from having to endure this painful process just to feel protected under the law.”
If HBs 2637 & 3155 is signed into law, protective orders will be valid until the victim dies, the conviction is dismissed or the victim submits a written request to terminate the order.
