Legislative Column for the Week of April 20, 2026

This week, the Missouri Senate reached a major milestone in the state budget process. After floor discussion and debate, the Senate third read and passed the core fiscal year 2027 operating budget bills, House Bills 2002 through 2013. These measures fund the essential departments and services of state government, and Senate action now sets the stage for conference with the House, where remaining differences between the two chambers’ versions will be resolved. Completing floor action on these core appropriations bills is an important step because it allows the General Assembly to move into the conference process and continue working toward a final budget that funds the vital services Missourians rely on every day.

The weeks ahead will remain especially important as lawmakers work through the final details of the budget before the constitutional deadline. While there are still steps remaining, this week’s progress represents meaningful forward movement on one of the Legislature’s most important responsibilities. I will continue working to ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely and that the final budget reflects Missouri’s priorities in a fiscally responsible way.
