More legislation has passed both bodies of the Missouri General Assembly and now awaits the governor’s signature to become law. House Bill 1870, which I handled in the Missouri Senate, would simplify the process of deposit-account garnishments and would update bankruptcy exemptions in current law.
In addition, House Bill 2180, the companion bill to my Senate Bill 931, would allow the Missouri Department of Revenue to mail certain tax documents by first-class mail instead of certified mail. This could save the state over $2 million annually.
House Bill 3279, which I also handled, was third read and finally passed. This moves the Missouri Community Service Commission from under the Missouri Department of Economic Development to the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development.
Other legislation that has passed is House Joint Resolutions 173 & 174, which would ask Missouri voters to approve a constitutional framework to phase out Missouri’s individual income tax as state revenues grow, while protecting public schools, local governments and essential services.
We have three weeks left in the 2026 regular legislative session. I will keep you up to date as we move closer to May 15.
I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at 573-751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
