Improving Health through Food
Hello from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley! I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend with family and friends and had the chance to have some good food and company.
Speaking of food, the Senate Families, Seniors and Health Committee heard Senate Bill 1499 this week which is my Food is Medicine Act. This bill allows medical programs to include nutrition and food in the treatment of patients. Caring for our bodies starts with what we put into them; I hope this legislation will help with the many chronic health challenges facing our community and elevate lives through healthy eating. Both diabetes and heart disease have direct connections to diet, with many more health issues improved, if not largely solved, through a good diet. I believe this bill is of the utmost importance and am glad to see it progress.
I have included the bills that made progress on the Senate floor this week below.
PERFECTED:
Senate Bill 838: Limits the costs that energy providers may pass along to their consumers.
Senate Bill 863: Establishes the Interscholastic Athletic Oversight Commission within the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to oversee appeals over athlete transfers and contests.
PASSED:
House Bill 2061: Prohibits antisemitism at public schools and creates a system to track and record incidents.
