Senator Tony Luetkemeyer Announces Winner of 2026 Senate Student Fine Arts Exhibit

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Landuyt, a senior at Park Hill South High School, has been chosen to represent Senate District 34 in the 2026 Senate Student Fine Arts Exhibit.

Elizabeth's acrylic painting, "Carry My Light," will be featured in the Missouri State Capitol as part of the annual exhibit showcasing exceptional young artists from throughout Missouri. The program gives students a prestigious platform to display their work in one of the state's most historic buildings.

"Carry My Light" is a thoughtful exploration of the pressures facing today's youth. The painting features a figure weighed down by stacks of books symbolizing the many influences vying for attention including social media, entertainment, family expectations, and societal norms.

"I wanted to portray the weight of different influences on a person, and how they can feel blinding and like they're dragging you in different directions," Elizabeth explained. "Through this painting I hoped to show the trapped feeling that I feel, as I try to fit into society while yearning for what I truly want."

The Senate Student Fine Arts Exhibit has become a cherished tradition, offering young artists statewide the chance to share their talents with legislators and visitors alike. Elizabeth was honored alongside fellow student artists at a recognition ceremony on April 9, 2026, at the Missouri State Capitol.
