Legislative Column for the Week of March 23, 2026

This week, the Missouri Senate returned from spring break and quickly got back to work. Floor activity was especially busy, with the Senate passing more than a dozen bills as lawmakers continue advancing legislation in the second half of session.

On the committee side, I had a couple bills with hearings this week. Senate Bill 1536 was heard in the Senate Families, Seniors and Health Committee, while Senate Bill 975 was heard in the House Committee on Local Government. I will continue moving these bills through the legislative process and will keep working to advance measures that address important needs in our communities.

Budget work is also beginning to intensify. Our office is actively tracking the changes being made to the state budget in the Missouri House of Representatives, and we are preparing to begin a thorough, line-by-line review over the next couple of weeks. As chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I remain committed to making sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and in a way that reflects Missouri’s values and priorities.

It is an honor to represent the people of the 12th Senatorial District. Please continue to reach out to my office with any questions, concerns or thoughts on legislation moving through the Capitol.
