Legislative Column for the Week of March 9, 2026 |
This week, the Missouri Senate continued committee and budget work as we move closer to the final stretch of the legislative session. Two of my bills in the Missouri Senate Local Government, Elections and Pensions Committee were voted do pass this week, and I look forward to seeing them continue through the legislative process.
In the Senate Appropriations Committee, all state departments have now had the opportunity to present their budget priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. This week, we heard presentations on various tax credits available through the state as we continue reviewing Missouri’s financial priorities and working to ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly.
My office is preparing for busy weeks ahead after spring break, when the Appropriations Committee will begin taking up the House budget bills. That work will be an important next step as we continue crafting a balanced and responsible state budget.
I welcomed many visitors to the Capitol this week, including Northwest Missouri State University international exchange students from India, France and Japan, who came to learn more about Missouri state government. It was a pleasure to visit with them and share more about the legislative process.
NWMSU Exchange Students Meeting on Wednesday this week. As always, it is an honor to represent Northwest Missouri in the Missouri Senate, and I will continue working to keep you informed.
As always, please feel free to call, email or write with your ideas or concerns. My Capitol office number is 573-751-1415, my email is rusty.black@senate.mo.gov and my mailing address is ### |
