Senator Tony Luetkemeyer Selects District Winner in Senate Art Contest

JEFFERSON CITY —State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, selected artwork by Kaitlin O’Connor, a junior at Park Hill High School, to represent the 34th Senatorial District in the 2023 Missouri Senate Art Exhibit competition. The winning entry was submitted by Kaitlin’s art teacher, Kylei Giles.

Senator Tony Luetkemeyer presents a resolution to Kaitlin O’Connor, the District 34 winner of the 2023 Senate Art Exhibit competition.

“The annual Senate art contest is a great opportunity to recognize talented young people from all across the state and encourage arts education in our schools,” Sen. Luetkemeyer said. “I was pleased to highlight Kaitlin’s cheerful portrait of her canine companion and select it as my favorite among the many outstanding art projects submitted from the 34th District.”

Each year since 2014, students from schools in each of Missouri’s senatorial districts have submitted artwork for the annual competition, which is co-sponsored by the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education, the Missouri Art Education Association and the office of the lieutenant governor.

Finalists were recognized during a Capitol Rotunda ceremony on March 22, and contest winners received a medal recognizing their success in the Missouri Senate Art Exhibit competition. The winning artwork from each of the 34 districts will be displayed in a passageway that connects the Capitol building with the Senate parking garage, where it can be enjoyed by lawmakers until March 2024.
