The State of the State The General Assembly and all of Missouri had the opportunity to hear from our governor in his State of the State address this past week. This address is more than a speech, allowing the governor to communicate his priorities and goals for the year.
The governor’s list of immediate action items includes a plan to phase out state income tax. Such a plan will require a large amount of deliberation amongst my fellow senators and I to make sure that doing so would not cause unnecessary burdens in other areas. The governor also expressed that he hoped to continue to promote agriculture in the state by establishing partnerships with SNAP.
In addition, I presented my first bill of this session to the Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources Committee. Senate Bill 913 simply sustains various tax incentives utilized by farmers and many others by repealing the sunset clauses that would end them. It would also provide a new tax incentive to encourage improving and building railroad infrastructure in the state. I believe it is important to sustain Missouri’s agriculture and those industries connected to it. This bill simply helps alleviate pressure.
I am excited to hit the ground running this session and look forward to keeping you up to date on the progress of my legislation.
