Senator Coleman’s Efforts Streamlining Government Agencies and Processes Clears Key Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Senate Government Efficiency Committee passed three measures sponsored by State Senator Mary Elizabeth Coleman, R-Arnold, to eliminate outdated laws, dissolve inactive government entities and strengthen oversight of costly regulations.

The committee’s mission is to streamline government, reduce waste and increase accountability to taxpayers. The committee passed the following measures that are a direct result of that mission:

  • Senate Bill 889 – Repeals expired, sunset and obsolete statutes, as well as outdated statutory references, modernizing Missouri law and reducing regulatory clutter.
  • Senate Bill 890 – Repeals or consolidates over a dozen defunct boards and commissions. It also requires state departments overseeing administrative entities to submit an annual report to the General Assembly identifying any entity that has not met or conducted public business in the prior three years.
  • Senate Bill 891 – Requires approval from the Missouri Legislature for administrative rules that would result in more than $250,000 in public expenditures or more than $250,000 in lost income to individuals or businesses.

“These bills reflect my commitment to responsible governance,” Sen. Coleman said. “By removing obsolete laws, eliminating inactive state boards and ensuring legislative oversight of high-cost regulations, we are making Missouri government more efficient, transparent and accountable to taxpayers.”
