Veteran’s Day This past week our nation celebrated Veterans Day, a moment for Missourians and Americans alike to pause and honor the men and women who served our country in the military. This is a day where we remember the sacrifice, service and patriotism of those who protect us. It is a day where we can be thankful that brave Americans chose to answer the call to protect our nation, our families and our way of life. For generations, regular Americans have answered the call to serve. They have traveled to battlefields across the globe, from deserts to jungles, and even to the very upper limits of the atmosphere. They carry the weight of our nation’s defense with quiet resolve, discipline and selfless devotion to protecting America. Whether they served in times of war or peace, each veteran made a conscience choice to risk their life so we could live ours, spending time far away from home and loved ones. The sacrifices they have made are unmeasurable. In Missouri, we take pride in our veterans. An astounding nearly 400,000 men and women living in our state served their country, according to the Missouri Veterans Commission. I believe that fact says a lot about the quality of Missourians and the patriotism of our state. Many of these veterans have continued to serve as leaders in our local communities. Veterans take the skills, training and bonds they forge in the military and use them to enrich their local communities and economies. Veterans know what hard work is, they know what doing a job right means and they are some of the finest citizens of our state. We are all guilty at times of taking the freedoms of this great country for granted. On Veterans Day, we remember the price paid for them. Our veterans have done so much to preserve the way of life we enjoy in the USA. They put it all on the line so we can live free. To all Missouri veterans – thank you. Thank you for your service, your patriotism, your sacrifice. Thank you for your enduring example of what it means to be an American. Please feel free to contact my office at 573-751-2076.
