Missouri Senate Passes Redistricting and Initiative Petition Reform, Sends Bills to Governor

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Senate today approved legislation to realign the state’s congressional districts and to reform Missouri’s initiative petition process, sending both measures to the governor’s desk for signature.

Senate President Pro Tem Cindy O’Laughlin, R-Shelbina, said the new congressional map reflects the clear mandate Missouri voters have delivered at the ballot box.

“Missouri voters have already chosen a conservative majority and now their representation in Congress will finally reflect it,” Sen. O’Laughlin said. “This map is legal, constitutional, and respectful of every community. It strengthens Missouri’s conservative voice and ensures every Missourian is fairly represented in Washington.”

Majority Floor Leader Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, highlighted the importance of safeguarding Missouri’s Constitution against foreign-funded campaigns.

“This proposal strengthens the integrity of our Constitution by making sure it reflects the will of all Missourians, not foreign-funded campaigns that target only a few parts of our state,” Sen. Luetkemeyer said. “Now this proposal will be in the hands of Missouri voters. We hope Missourians will vote to protect their Constitution, to defend the voice of our rural Missouri, and to keep the future of our state in Missouri hands, not in the hands of foreign-funded interests.”

The Senate Majority Caucus praised passage of both measures as a decisive step toward strengthening Missouri’s voice in Washington and protecting the integrity of Missouri’s laws
