Protecting Our Land

I hope you enjoyed the warmer temperatures this past weekend and took advantage of this little taste of summer. I love looking over the rolling green hills here in central Missouri and it reminds me of how important it is to protect this beautiful land we call home.

With that in mind, I’d like to discuss my Senate Bill 1281, which was passed out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources. If passed, this bill would create a system for the Department of Agriculture to regulate and label invasive plants. By creating a watch list for invasive plants and potentially invasive plants, the state will be better equipped to deal with these harmful flora. The bill also provides penalties for those who plant or sell plants on either list. This will help to protect Missouri’s agriculture as well as our natural plants from invasive species that can be devastating to the natural ecosystem.

As always, feel free to stop by my office in the Capitol and let me know of any concerns or questions you might have.
