Senator Sandy Crawford's Capitol Report for the Week of March 25, 2024

    March 28, 2024

Lawmakers have started the second half of the 2024 regular legislative session, with a lot of priorities to get to before May 17. My bill, Senate Bill 834 was given preliminary Missouri Senate approval. This bill would clarify the handling of life and health reinsurance contracts if a Missouri insurance company becomes insolvent. It also includes another one of my priorities,

Senate Bill 1348, which adds some commonsense protections and guardrails around the providing of insurance documents to the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance.

Also, the upper chamber gave first-round approval to Senate Bill 835. It would modify provisions relating to financial instruments.  The bill contains a few of my other priorities: Senate Bill 736, which increases the cap on MO Bucks, the state’s linked-deposit program, and

Senate Bill 1292, which standardizes statutes that govern municipal banking practices.

Both of these proposals still need another positive vote from the Missouri Senate to move on to the Missouri House of Representatives for similar consideration.

Another item is the Fiscal Year 2025 state operating budget, which should be coming to the Missouri Senate within the next month. I will keep you updated on progress in future columns.
