Statement from Sen. Angela Walton Mosley Regarding the Kansas City Shootings

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Angela Walton Mosley, D-Florissant, today issued the following statement relating to shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Celebration Parade:

“My family’s joyous time at the Kansas City Chiefs parade turned into a frantic search for safety as gunshots rang out.

The sudden rush of confusion and fear was overwhelming. I watched parents try to comfort their children, while others helped those children who were separated from their families. Nobody knew exactly what was happening, but we knew it was gun violence. Shots were being fired near us. A thing we’ve heard, read and thought about was now real, and we were in it.

I am so thankful for the law enforcement and first responders who were there that day, but gun violence puts them at risk too, and they have families at home to think about. They deserve, just like us, to live in a state where their lives are not needlessly put at risk because some people refuse to even admit there is even a problem.

I can’t imagine anyone would want to live like this, and they shouldn’t have to. We can give law enforcement the tools they need to prevent gun violence and we can start right away.

The victims, their families and everyone coping with the trauma of that day have my thoughts and prayers, but they also have my unwavering resolve to pass common sense gun safety laws for Missouri."
