Standing with Our Allies

We can accomplish great things when we work together. This week reminded me of that fact as I heard from our friends overseas and worked alongside my colleagues in the Senate.

This week the 102nd General Assembly welcomed the Israeli Consul General. His words touched my heart, and I am proud to stand with Israel and offer my utmost support as they continue their fight against Hamas. Israel has been a long-time ally of our nation and of Missouri, and I believe any aid we can deliver them is well worth the effort.

I also attended the State of the Judiciary Address here in the Capitol. I appreciate all the hard work the many different judges in our own district perform to make sure cases are processed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The General Laws Committee, which I chair, had executive sessions for multiple bills including my own Senate Bill 844 and Senate Bill 845. SB 844 will help alleviate the burden on families who purchase expensive medications by having those costs count toward their out-of-pocket maximums. SB 845 will include severance and termination pay into the calculations used to determine unemployment insurance. I’m excited to see these two bills move out of committee this week and look forward to discussing them on the Senate floor.

In the coming week, Senate discussion will move to initiative petition reform which will put us one step closer to protecting our Missouri State Constitution. Discussion will then move to the federal reimbursement allowance (FRA) and how we can pass a bill that will continue providing the necessary funds to hospitals and rural medical services.

If you find yourself near the Capitol feel free to stop in. My door is always open and I am always happy to answer any questions you might have or help you be a witness for a bill.
