Senator Lauren Arthur’s Social Worker License Reciprocity Signed into Law

JEFFERSON CITY – Licensed social workers from other states who want to relocate or practice in Missouri will now be able to do that under legislation sponsored by State Sen. Lauren Arthur, D-Kansas City, and signed into law on July 6.

A provision of Senate Bill 70, Sen. Arthur’s legislation grants interstate license reciprocity and enables licensed outstate social workers in good standing to receive licensure to provide services to Missouri residents.

“As Missouri faces a growing mental health crisis, we must do everything we can to support this vital workforce by eliminating red tape and simplifying the licensing process. Social workers help vulnerable populations across the state, and I hope this law increases access to needed services,” said Sen. Arthur. “I’m grateful for the professionals and advocates who helped steer this proposal into law.”

Under SB 70, Missouri will adopt the Social Work Licensure Compact, an interstate cadre of licensed, regulated social workers who may serve in other jurisdictions to improve public access to competent social work services.
