FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Officials with the Department of Transportation (MoDOT) estimate an approximate cost in FY05 of $125,000 to conduct a feasibility study and write the report. This estimate is based on past planning studies.

Officials with Jackson County Government and the Kansas City Transportation Authority each assume the proposal would have no fiscal impact on their agencies.

DESCRIPTION

This act requires MoDOT to examine the traffic congestion problems that occur at the intersections of Fifty-Second Street and U.S. Highway 71, Fifty-Fifth Street and U.S. Highway 71, and Seventy-Fifth Street and U.S. Highway 71, and study whether overpass systems should be established at such intersections, among other alleviation alternatives. MoDOT is also required to determine whether an exit onto U.S. Highway 71 off Interstate 70 should be constructed. MoDOT is required to report such findings to the General Assembly no later than December 1, 2004.

This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
