HCS/SB 733 - This act requires crime laboratories providing reports or testimony to a state court pertaining to a result of the forensic analysis of evidence to be accredited by a laboratory accrediting organization approved by the Department of Public Safety. Crime laboratories shall comply with these requirements on or after December 31, 2012. Under this act, the term "crime laboratory" means a laboratory operated or supported financially by the state or any unit of local government that employs at least one scientist, who examines physical evidence in criminal matters and provides expert or opinion testimony about such evidence in state court. The department shall promulgate rules identifying approved accrediting bodies and shall establish a procedure for monitoring crime laboratory compliance. SUSAN HENDERSON MOORE
