SB 836 - This act provides that any public official or employee who is receiving a retirement benefit resulting from membership in a defined benefit plan established by the state of Missouri or any political subdivision or instrumentality of the state and subsequently becomes an active employee of a different public employer that operates a defined benefit plan shall not earn creditable service, contribute to, or otherwise participate in such defined benefit plan. The public employer shall establish a defined contribution plan for any such public employee that is already retired and receiving a retirement benefit from another public employer. This act shall not prohibit any public employee who is a member of multiple defined benefit plans as incident to employment with a single employer from receiving retirement benefits from each of the plans. The provisions of this act shall not apply to employees covered as uniformed members, police officers, firefighters, public safety personnel, or sheriffs. However, the provisions of this act shall apply to any retired public official or employee who is employed for the first time by a different public employer on or after January 1, 2023.
