CURRENT BILL SUMMARY
SB 1192 - This act imposes additional surcharges and driver's license suspensions on any person failing to yield the right-of-way when the violation results in physical injury, serious physical injury, or death to a person. In addition to the normal penalties, a person violating this act which results in physical injury will be assessed a surcharge $200 and may have his or her driver's license suspended for 30 days. If a serious physical injury results, a $500 surcharge will be imposed and a 90-day license suspension may be imposed. If the violation leads to a fatality, an additional $1,000 surcharge is assessed and a six month license suspension may be imposed. The additional surcharges are deposited in the motorcycle safety trust fund.
This act is identical to SB 259 (2003), SB 1077 and HB 1534 (2002).
